Capturing the Magic of Pantomimes with Magic Phil
Working as the photographer for Magic Phil over the past few years has been an incredible journey, filled with creativity, excitement, and a vibrant display of theatrical talent. My role in creating his promotional images and covering his festive pantomimes has been a rewarding and exhilarating experience, allowing me to be part of a dynamic and inspiring team.
Each year, Magic Phil’s pantomimes are a highlight in my professional calendar. The process begins with crafting Magic Phil’s portraits for the initial promotional materials, where I aim to capture his unique personality and the essence of his character. These sessions set the tone for the upcoming performances and are crucial for engaging the audience from the outset.
As the pantomime season unfolds, my work extends to photographing the full cast, which is an opportunity to showcase the diverse array of talent and the intricate details of their costumes and expressions. Being part of the dress rehearsals is particularly exciting, as it offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the production and the collaborative effort that goes into each performance.
Admittedly, photographing Magic Phil’s pantomimes is one of my favourite assignments each year. It's not just about taking pictures; it's about capturing the energy, the laughter, the drama, and the sheer joy that these performances bring to audiences. The photographs from these events are not only promotional tools but also memories of the magical moments created on stage, immortalizing the hard work and passion of everyone involved.
And of course there is this iconic image which I have now seen on numerous billboards, shared across social media and published in magazines, although I do think it's time for an upgrade.
